Assistant Tourism Director (Full-Time)
Location: Russell, KY
Position Overview
The Assistant Tourism Director is a full-time, hands-on role that supports the daily operations and strategic execution of the Tourism & Convention Commission. This position serves as the primary operational support to the Executive Director, helping turn ideas into action across events, partnerships, and tourism initiatives. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, community-facing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Executive Director with planning, coordination, and execution of tourism initiatives and special events
Assist with event logistics including vendors, volunteers, timelines, permits, and on-site operations
Help prepare reports, board materials, presentations, and general communications
Build and maintain relationships with local businesses, partners, and community stakeholders
Represent the Tourism Commission at meetings and events as needed
Assist with administrative tasks including scheduling, documentation, invoicing, and recordkeeping
Provide operational coverage and support during evenings and weekends as required for events
Perform other duties as needed to support the goals of the Tourism & Convention Commission
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
1-2 years of experience in tourism, events, communications, public administration, or a related field
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Detail-oriented, dependable, and adaptable
Compensation
Commensurate with experience
